I can’t believe the Atomic Geeks forgot about the greatest Christmas movie ever……. Die Hard !! Now I have a gun HO HO HO. Other then that it was a “Merry” podcast filled with glad tidings, good cheer and many f-bombs !! Merry Christmas to all and to all a Yippie ki-yay motherfuckers !!

  2. QuestionMark says:

HO, ho ,holy shit! What a merry time that was.
Christian, your story about getting castle Greyskull and not be able to sleep with it in your room, all I could think of was Silence of the Skulls. Do you here the cry of the human skulls? I only wish I knew you as a kid so I could make fun of you.

Tired, you are correct sir, Die Hard is the greatest Christmas movie ever. On that topic,I saw Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer in the past week as well and Santa was a real prick to Rudolph. They all were. It’s a good think he ends up on the island of misfit toys and not the island of semi-automatic rifles.

  3. I’ve only gotten through half of this podcast so far, but the fact that I’m now seeing Die Hard isn’t mentioned makes me wonder if I should continue. I’m going to assume that Tired and Question are just kidding and Die Hard really is mentioned in this episode. Because if killing bad guys in your barefeet doesn’t scream yuletide cheer, I don’t know what does.

  4. Riche613 says:

Hey guys great holiday episode! Really brought some Xmas cheer to my iPhone.

Stockings are awesome I get one every year and presents on Christmas eve can definitely be fun(as long as you leave some for Christmas day)

And hey are you guys doing an episode this week? Seemed a little unsure upon signing off last week?

  5. downs says:

    good question Riche
we DO have another episode ready however we are going to wait until next week to put it up
its a new years 09 recap
So were gonna let the xmas one stay up and then pull the trigger on the newest episode next wednesday

  6. Michael says:

Well god damn Riche that is quite the haul of Christmas specials. All sorts of awesomeness there. I do recommend a few ales (or bongs) and watching those. Merriment will ensue. The best part is actually making fun of most of these. The Pacman one is epic in it’s 80’s awfulness. If anyone gets the chance to see the He-Man Christmas special it is quite amazingly bad.

Lots of good Rankin/Bass shit there. There are a couple obscure ones. Which I like. I have to try to find “Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July” (that is the one where Frosty is done in stop motion as well) I actually stumbled upon one recently I had never seen before- Pinocchio’s Christmas (1980 Rankin/Bass). It had all the classic elements of Rankin/Bass. Great character names- “Maestro Fire-Eater”, awesome animal sidekicks (there are monkeys that drive horse drawn sleighs in this. AMAZING), fantasy elements (Snow queen), Mickey Rooney as Santa and plenty o’ happy/sappy songs. Quite impressed I’d never seen that sonbitch before.

  7. Christian says:

Sorry dude no new episode this week. We will have one shortly before the new year but not this week. We all thought a little time off to recharge the creative juices with some holiday hijinx wasn’t such a bad idea.

  8. Riche613 says:

OMG! I’m halfway through the He-man/She-Ra special…wow this is soo BAD(in a good way) and my god as much as i love 80’s cartoons, for the life of me i couldn’t event sit through 10min of the Pacman special. However the ales and bongs are definitely bringing merriment(or something close anyway). however starting to think i should have gone to the job interview first then gotten on with the merriment haha.

anyway thanks again for the great episode and although i am saddened that there is no episode this week(ill have to go back to the archives for my atomic fix) i am glad that you guys will be rested up for what im sure will be an incredible year/decade in geeky review for the new years episode!

  9. Tired Canadian says:

I think the phrase “recharge the creative juices” is Christian speak for “I am out of beer and the wife won’t give me any money to buy more beer until after Christmas”. I just hope things don’t get so desperate that Christian turns to toad and or urinal cake licking, unless it’s videotaped and put on youtube for all to enjoy. Merry Seasons Christmas Holidays everyone !!

  10. Hey love the show Geeks!

As a true lover of the Christmas season, Digo I’m a total geek when it comes to all of those holiday specials, I’m with ya man.

Oh, and just FYI, it was the Winter Warlock that sang “One Foot in Front of the Other” with Kris Kringle. And I have his action figure in my collection, next to my Herbie the Dentist and Yukon Cornelius. Did you ever notice that he actually carries a pistol? That’s just another reason he’s so awesome.

Anywho, I wanted to throw my Christmas movie hat in the ring. Did any of you watch the Mystery Science Theater Christmas specials. Joel did “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” and Mike did “Santa Claus”. Both of these are amazing episodes. And I actually had both of these movies on VHS or DVD before MST3K did them. If you haven’t seen them, hunt them down and join us all in having Corw T Robot’s “Patrick Swayze Christmas”. It’s perfect.

Thank you guys for a truly delightful Christmas special. It made me smile.

    Merry Christmas Geeks!

  11. Christian says:

Dave from Toledo! Welcome to THE ATOMIC GEEKS podcast website! I have seen a few of the episodes of MST but not any of the Christmas movies. If there was ever a untapped resource for hilarity it is Mystery Science Theater. For those who haven’t ever seen an episode go and find one right now. You won’t be disappointed. Consider it my first website ATOMIC PICK! Wow!

Riche613 – Richie Riche I think you might slowly succumb to the same virus that our friend Mr.DiGiovanni is afflicted with and that is Christmas-special-itis. It’s a bitter pill to swallow at first but once you start you never stop. Say hello to your new holiday tradition you holiday special junk monkey.

Tired Canadian – TC once again you wound me with your words. The last thing I would ever do is betray one of my best friends during the holiday season. That friend specifically being…beer. Let’s get through this season together old friend and maybe an egg nog or two.

  12. Bob says:

Loving the Christmas episode (aka the Geeks of Christmas Past?) Brings back memories. One particular Christmas memory I had- one year, for some reason, we hung our stockings on our bedroom door knobs, instead of by the fireplace. Anyway, I remember going to sleep Christmas Eve, and seeing the empty stocking, and then early the next morning (it was still very dark, so we couldn’t get up yet), I woke up, looked over and saw a freakin BATMOBILE sticking out of the top of my stocking! I was so excited I could hardly stay put. I remember playing with it on the kitchen floor all Christmas morning.

For some reason I never got Star Wars toys for Christmas, but I always had lots of Lego, so I had to resort to building my own R2D2. However I do remember getting a Steve Austin action figure with the telescopic eye! Wish I could find it but alas it is probably gone.

Thanks for a fun episode & Merry Christmas to all!

  13. Christian says:

Steve Austin figure! *URP!* Never got one, always wanted one and one day I will, this I swear. I always check Ebay for the 6 Million Dollar Man and a Maskatron figure. You will be mine mine, oh yes you will.

  14. Jeeg says:

Great episode, guys. You made a portion of my holiday fun at the airport slightly less detestable.

I was especially glad to hear praise for the Rankin Bass programs. I typically hear people bashing Rudolph and the other specials, so it’s nice to hear that somebody appreciates them.

  15. Cordy says:

Just listened to the first half-hour of this one…nothin’ like being three months late, huh?

I also remember the joy of the stockings on Christmas morn. Who in their right mind wraps the stuff that goes in the stockings? That seems awfully redundant to me. I remember a few really good gems to come out of the stockings; perhaps they were made all the more memorable for being compared against the low-dollar crap that was usually in there. The two that stand out most in my mind were Stompers and a Macross “transformer” that turned from a robot into a jet.

As far as memorable geeky Christmas presents:

I remember getting the Atari 2600 the year I was in kindergarten. Still had it and all of the games stashed at my parents house in the basement until their house burned down in October of 2008. That was a sad day, realizing that the Atari had been lost forever.

Mighty Men & Monster Maker – this thing couldn’t have been that expensive but I remember playing with it for hours and hours for at least a couple of years after I got it. If you don’t remember this thing it had different panels (one for the heads, one for torsos and one for legs) that you could mix and match to make different Mighty Men & Monsters. The panels had raised outlines of the different body parts over which you could lay a piece of paper and use a crayon to do a rubbing. I would then use colored pencils or crayons to color it in. There wasn’t a whole lot of flexibility to this thing but I remember mixing it up by creating different backdrops and battle scenes behind the characters I had created.

Air Jammers – this thing was awesome. My cousin got one the same Christmas I did and we spent the whole Christmas day racing them down the sidewalk behind my Grandma’s house. Surprisingly enough, it lasted quite a while. I think my cousin over-pumped his within a few weeks and blew up the air tank on the buggy. I was a little more careful with mine.

I don’t remember the name of this last thing but it was kinda like a handheld Theremin. You could use the dials and buttons on it to change the pitch, frequency and volume of the noise it made. Pretty sure I drove my mom crazy for several months by running around the house trying to perfect my laser and spaceship noises. Once I got something I liked I would try to write down how all the dials and switches were set so I could recreate it again if I wanted. As I recall I was usually never able to recreate a sound once I had written down the settings.

That’s all I can remember for now. Let me finish the episode and I might have some more later. By the way, the first 30 minutes of this one have really cracked me up.

  16. Christian says:

Better late than never Cordy and Merry Christmas.

Mighty Men & Monster Maker! Geeze Louise! That takes me back. I totally forgot about this. My brother had this! So cool. I wish I had one now. My wife just let me know there was a girl version called “Fashion Plates.” Hilarious!
